POLITICAL groupies are a funny lot. Tony Benn, who continues to pack them in up and down the country with speeches and reminiscences, had three pipes stolen when he trod the boards at the UCL Bloomsbury Theatre in London the other night. Given special permission to light up during the question and answer session he took the pipes on stage and, after all the hand shaking and applause, turned to find they had disappeared. “I would be grateful if anyone has taken them to keep an eye on them for safe keeping,” he said generously.
