BUSINESS Secretary John Hutton let slip a clue to his automaton personality earlier this week during a promotion for his new book on young soldiers from his Barrow and Furness constituency who were killed in the Great War. In a remark which might go some way to explaining his politically myopic vision and cause late, great Labour Cabinet intellectuals to turn in their graves, he admitted that he had “not read a novel for 10 years”.
