New CONSERVATIVE MP Edward Timpson has advertised for “an intelligent and personable graduate” to work in his House of Commons office. A Stakhanovite tendency would suit the successful applicant since the Crewe and Nantwich MP says they will be “expected to work core hours of 0830-1830”. That’s 50 hours for a five-day week, even without before non-core extra hours. Hasn’t he heard of the European Working Time Directive, or to give its more common name, the law? The newcomer is also being a bit ambitious in wanting somebody who has sympathy with the views of the Tory Party (don’t we all), and the contradictory good “political judgement”.
