FUNNY thing, democracy. Newly-elected member of Labour’s National Executive Committee Peter Kenyon thought he’d take his prospective duties seriously and pop along to last weekend’s National Policy Forum in Warwick. But he was turned down because there was no room, or whatever “cannot be accommodated” means. There was no such bad luck for Derek “Dolly” Draper, the former spinmeister to Peter Mandelson, who is neither elected nor a member of the party staff. Dolly has, however, retrained as a psychotherapist and is advising the new general secretary Ray Collins in his brave task of rebuilding the party. On that basis, maybe his presence was needed more than Mr Kenyon’s.
