I didn't run local shops down. I only pointed out that the practice of operating a Farepak type savings club remains completely unregulated. People's savings remain at risk and this is unacceptable. there needs to be a system put into place to safeguard savings.

Local shops do a good job on the whole so lets not get carried away, you want to know when something smells take a look at the group who took over Rover.

We need laws to ensure people who do deal with fraud spent time in jail.

no good running down local btuchers or bakers.

A spokesman for the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform said: “We are looking to see if there is a need for action.”

Are they having a laugh??? Obviously "there is a need for action.”!!!

The Farepak collapse/rip-off should have heralded in much needed regulation. There have been other similar situations since then too eg "First Solution".

There are still thousands of unregulated companies who operate like Farepak and Wrapit across the country - from funeral directors to local butcher shops.
