WHILE the media appear to have taken the view that bringing back Mandy has strengthened Gordon Brown’s position, MPs returning from their long summer holiday are not so sure. While it is true that the Prince of Darkness’ resurrection puts paid to any coup the Blairites were planning on the reopening of Parliament, there is a view that Mr Brown is now his prisoner and that Mandy is, for all intents and purposes, running the country. It’s a galling thought. Others MPs are simply in denial. “I will only believe he’s really back when I hear he’s resigned”, said one backbencher.
