SEEING George Bush struggle yet again this week was a reminder to us that when Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize last year Kevin Spacey, hosting a celebratory party, said: “I wonder if there is a parallel universe and if in that universe Al Gore is the President and George Bush is getting the Nobel Peace Prize.” Pause for contemplation. “No, probably not.” It was a salutary reminder of how things might have turned out  if Mr Gore had won in 2000. Oh hang on – he did.
