THERE’S bad news for the many admirers of Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Öpik. He has denied reports that he would feature in the next series of Celebrity Big Brother. It’s not that he is publicity shy, since he has already graced The All-Star Talent Show, All-Star Mr and Mrs and Celebrity Weakest Link. However, his time is currently consumed with his campaign to succeed Simon Hughes as Lib Dem president. This seems to be a contest in which some of his own colleagues seem to regard him as the weakest link. Vince Cable has denied there is a “Stop Lembit” plot, while Chris Huhne is publicly backing rival contender Baroness Scott, of whom few have heard. So perhaps Mr Öpik should think again about the Big Brother option. It will recalled that another MP, George Galloway, previously added to the gaiety of the nation when he pretended to be a cat in the Big Brother House. And if anyone could top that, it’s loveable Lembit.
