Sir Martin has just moved the tax domicile of his giant WPP advertising company from London to Dublin to avoid British taxes. What better qualified a person to chair Boris’ international business advisory council, set up to encourage companies to locate in London? His first success in the job came after a six-hour meeting with 35 company chairmen (they all were), at the end of which Boris emerged muttering a warning that other businesses might be moving overseas.
