LOOKING forward to the office Christmas party, or has the recession brought the hammer down on festivities this year? No worries for the staff of some of the high street banks bailed out by the Government with billions of taxpayers’ cash. Lloyds TSB, which pocketed £5.5 billion from the Treasury, is to spend what it says is a “modest” £2.5 million of revelling for its hard-working staff, or at least those who having been made redundant. And the Royal Bank of Scotland, which trousered £20 billion, is to spend a mere £1 million on its staff parties, following a £30,000 bash at Blenheim Palace for its executives last week. And a happy new year, too.
