THE world’s wealth destroyers turned up in Davos this week for the annual gathering of the World Economic Forum, purpose: “improving the state of the world”. They got that one wrong then. According to those present, some of the biggest sinners have stayed away this year for what they perhaps feared would – or should – have been a capitalist show trial. Last year, the bankers said they had it all under control. This year, as they cast a collective, bewildered look towards politicians for help, it is all about how governments can bail out the system. “People should feel remorse,” a “Davos insider” told The Guardian. “Some people should be apologising.” Let’s not hold our breath.
