NEVERTHELESS, somebody at a high level in Government has been putting it about that Gordon is about to throw in the towel and take a high-powered global economic job where his talents will be more suited than the collegiate challenge of running a Government. This has nothing to do with his visit to the Vatican for an audience with the Pope this weekend. Nor have Gordon and Sarah been spotted in furtive attendance at Mass in Westminster Cathedral. That’s not to say he’s not praying like hell.
