WHAT would Confucius say? Recklessly picking up bad habits in its slow march to democracy, China is reported to be studying “new” Labour’s spin doctoring tactics. The Chinese Communist Party, the biggest in the world and which has held power for 60 years, is overhauling its propaganda machine and, according to The Guardian’s Beijing correspondent, is to set about training “a legion of government spin doctors to handle any future political crisis” after studying Alastair Campbell’s handling of the British foot-and-mouth disaster.
