Labour MPs who support privatisation face losing their trade union funding, Unison general secretary Dave Prentis warned his annual conference this week.
He called on Unison’s Labour link committee to suspend all 64 constituency development plans pending a review of the MPs’ policies.
Mr Prentis declared:“Our members are tired of feeding the hand that bites them” as he quoted a new MORI poll for the union, in which only 30 per cent of public sector workers said they would vote Labour in a general election.
He added: “I call on Labour Link to fight to ensure that any Labour Party manifesto does not continue the privatisation of our public services… We cannot tell our members to campaign and vote for a party whose manifesto promises more competition and more privatisation”.
Mr Prentis’ remarks, which surprised his officers, may alarm the leadership of Labour, which receives some £1.5 million in donations from Unison annually besides constituency and other funding
