Order, order! My round. Not a command familiar with the last Speaker Michael Martin. John Bercow, late of the Strangers’ Bar, continues his efforts to ingratiate himself with the staff of the Palace of Westminster in order to shore up his position when the Tories come for him after the next election. In an unprecedented move, the Speaker has written to all “colleagues” in the Westminster staff to thank them for their hard work and “combination of commitment and skill” during “what has been a difficult year for the House of Commons”. Fair enough, but the staff don’t have the votes John.
