RMT tells Mayor Boris to axe Tube Lines
by Keith Richmond
The RMT has called on London Mayor Boris Johnson to “get rid” of Tube Lines and take the work back into direct public control after the firm tried to cut £2 billion off its £7.2 billion spend on refurbishing the Northern, Piccadilly and Jubilee lines on the London Underground.
RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “Tube users and tube workers are caught bang smack in the middle of this £2 billion stand off between Tube Lines and TfL.
“This row stems from the botched PPP privatisation of the tube and it is not out of the question that we could see another failure similar to Metronet or National Express on the east coast – with Londoners left to pick up the pieces.”
