I shared a train carriage down to Brighton today with Peter Tatchell, veteran Labour activist, Tribune contributor and now Green Party PPC for Oxford East. He was applying the finishing touches to his speech at tonight’s New Statesman fringe meeting to discuss “Do Politicians Still Matter?” Peter will be berating the politicians over the cash-for-peerages affair two years ago which nearly sank Tony Blair’s premiership.

Peter asks if Green Party leader Caroline Lucas will be speaking at tonight’s Compass/Tribune rally (19.30, Hilton Metropole, Ambassador, floor G). Not a chance. Compass refuse to work with people in other left and centre-left parties. Wonder if they’ll stick to that line after the election?

The only place you can read all of Tribune's articles as soon as they are published is in the magazine. To find out more about subscribing from as little as £19, click here.

I do believe both the peerage and the expenses has hit all Parties hard. Not to long ago we had labours back bencher’s saying under brown they may as well not turn up. I also think the standard of the MP has become poor, by selecting people from list and not allowing real labour people to get into government.

You keep parachuting people you like it will end up with a Party full of Patsies and no real people.
