One familiar face missing from conference this year is that of Tony Benn. His son Hilary, Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, stopped by the Tribune stand a few minutes ago. I asked him how his father, such a good friend of Tribune and the Labour movement for so many years, is and Hilary said that while Tony hasn’t been well – “He’s been rather overdoing it lately” – the good news is that he’s feeling better now. Hilary added that it is, he thinks, the first conference his father has missed since he joined the party decades ago.
