Probably not the delegate witnessed by a Tribune staff member being handed a sheaf of papers by a conference steward with the words “here’s your speech”. The delegate, whom we will identify merely as a prospective candidate for a Midlands seat, managed miraculously to catch the chair’s eye and was thus called to the rostrum to speak.
