To the surprise of no one at all, David Cameron got a much better reception at the CBI than Gordon Brown. As for Nick Clegg, in common with many other people, CBI delegates were largely uninterested. However, they were not at all taken with the Liberal Democrat leader’s strident criticism of “unearned wealth”. Given that the Bank of England had to lend the Royal Bank of Scotland and HBOS £61.6 billion, it is a wonder that anyone is interested in pandering to the supposed captains of industry.
