The Government was wrong to impose cuts to civil servants’ redundancy pay without union agreement, the High Court ruled this week.
The Public and Commercial Services Union brought the case after the Cabinet Office announced changes to the civil service compensation scheme last year.
The judgment now requires ministers to redraft the changes. PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said it was a “huge tribute” to his members who had “refused to sit back and watch their terms and conditions being ripped up in front of their eyes”.
The Cabinet Office said it was “disappointed”, but has not yet announced if it will appeal the judgment.
